Here are some common questions about our shuttle services.

Bookings, Cancellations, Refunds, Tickets

Why can't I book from/to Shelly Beach, Shelly Beach Villa Moya, St Michaels on Sea, Uvongo and Manaba on some days during Dec/Jan school holidays?

Due to high traffic congestion generally during 15 December to 9 Jan our shuttle services from/to these points are not offered. Passengers will need to book from/to either Port Shepstone or Margate Sasol.
NORTHBOUND routes affected are those arriving Durban Airport at 11H30, 13H30, 14H00 & 15H30.
SOUTHBOUND routes affected would be those departing Durban Airport at 10H00 & 13H30.

How do I change or cancel my booking?

How do I book my ticket?

You can book and pay securely online via our booking portal by clicking on this link
Send us a booking request via WhatsApp to 081 475 7575 or email to <a href=”mailto:”></a> to pay via EFT or cash deposit at an FNB ATM. Please note this service is only offered during office hours.
You can also book and pay nationwide at any Pick’nPay, Checkers or Shoprite however remember you will need to present the original ticket on boarding.

What do I do if I mistakenly book the wrong date or route?

Should you boo:k the wrong date or route, you need to advise us in writing via WhatsApp (081 475 7575) or email (book@southern shuttle.co.za) within 1 hour to amend the booking to the correct date/time. 

How to get a copy of my ticket

Send us your ticket number via WhatsApp to 081 475 7575 or email to for a copy of your ticket. Please note this service is only offered during office hours.

May I book telephonically?

Regrettably we do not accept telephonic bookings. You will need to book via our online portal, via WhatsApp or by sending us an email.

Where do I find you at Durban Airport?

Where to find us at the Airport (King Shaka International Airport)?

Exit the Domestic or International Arrivals and turn immediately right. You will see a yellow sign “Public Transportation Area” Please follow this sign which will take you in the area where the majority of ATM’s are to be found at the airport. Exit the doors and walk straight ahead until you see benches. Please wait at the second bench for the shuttle. Please note that we have restricted time for collections so please do not waste time with the boarding process. Luggage will not be held for other passengers not ready for boarding.

Where to find us at Gateway?

We collect our passengers from the Umhlanga McDonald’s Drive Thru which is located opposite Shell Garage and Gateway Shopping Mall. The shuttle stops as close as possible to where the cars line up to start the drive through to place their orders. Passengers are requested not to waste time and approach the shuttle as soon as it arrives as the parking area is usually quite congested.

Where to find us at the Point Yacht Club:

As you enter the Marina, you will cross over the railway lines. Directly in front of you, there is a large turning circle. Please wait at the turning circle for the shuttle.

Where to find us at the Station?

We collect our passengers from outside the Durban Bus Station. Please look out for our shuttle. It will double park as close as possible to the car entrance gates (not the bus entrance gates).

Where to find us in Amanzimtoti?

We collect our passengers from the Amanzimtoti McDonald’s Drive Thru which is located in the vicinity of Arbour Crossing Shopping Complex, in particular next to the Shell Garage. Passengers are requested to approach the shuttle as soon as it arrives.

Where to find us at the Station?

We collect our passengers from outside the Durban Bus Station. Please look out for our shuttle. It will double park as close as possible to the car entrance gates (not the bus entrance gates).

How do our drivers deal with traffic congestion, protest action / blocked roads and other delays en-route to the destination?

All of our drivers are experienced and trained professionals. They are extremely familiar with our scheduled routes that regularly suffer from tailbacks, bottlenecks as well as other frustrations of the open road. Our drivers have the routes down to a tee, and know the best ways to make good time in a way that never impacts on the safety or comfort of our passengers.

Children, Pets, Baggage

Do we offer discounts for children and/or pensioners?

We unfortunately do not offer discounted fares as our tickets are budget priced tickets.

May I take a bicycle, surfboard, golf clubs, wheelchair etc. when booking the shuttle?

The above items are classified as excess luggage and are chargeable. Please contact us via WhatsApp on 081 475 7575 to find out the details with regards to excess luggage and the cost thereof. Please note that we do not accept carriage of motorised wheelchairs.

Can my child travel on the shuttle unaccompanied?

No unaccompanied children (under the age of 12 years) or infants will be allowed to travel on our Shuttles.

What if I am travelling with a child?

Regardless of age, every child is considered a passenger, and you should take it into account when entering the number of passengers when booking on our on-line portal. We offer baby & booster chairs at no additional cost.

How much luggage can I take with me?

Each booked passenger is allowed one standard size suitcase of 23kg and one hand luggage of 7kg. Extra luggage will be charged for. Please send us a WhatsApp to find out the cost and to advise of your extra luggage.

May I travel with my pet / animal?

Trained Guide dogs travelling with a blind passenger are permitted as well as (on request and with our express authorisation) small lap dogs or cats. It must be noted that the lap dog or cat which must be transported in a portable and sealed carrier, kept on the passengers lap and under NO circumstance be taken out of the container whist on the shuttle. Timing your Travel

Do I need to be at my collection point before the departure time?

Most definitely you do! Passengers are requested to be ready and waiting for the shuttle 15 min prior the indicated departure time. We use this time to negotiate traffic between the town/village traffic as well as to process the boarding of every passenger and luggage.

What to do if the shuttle does not arrive at the collection point?

You need to call /send a WhatsApp to our Offices within 5 min of the shuttle being late. Please call us on 081 475 7575 or 079 571 9900.We will not be in a position to assist you if you call us 15 min after your scheduled departure time.

What happens if I miss my shuttle?

No extension or refund will be given to passengers who miss their shuttle booking. Passengers who missed their shuttle due to late arrival and/or cancellation of their flights/buses will need to claim their losses with the entity that caused their loss of our ticket and repurchase a new ticket on our next available shuttle.

What do I do if my flight arrival time is too close to the shuttle departure time?

We recommend rather booking on the later shuttle ( if available). Subject to availability of seats, we will shift your ticket for free to the earlier shuttle if you make it on time. Remember to also always switch your phone on once you land.

How much time should I give myself between arriving at the airport/bus station for my onward journey?

It is best to check with your onward transporter as different companies have different requirements. To be on the safe side, it is always best to rather arrive much earlier rather than later as our shuttles do sometimes encounter traffic congestions due to various reasons and we arrive behind schedule due to factors beyond our control.

How long does it take me from the plane to the shuttle?

Should you only have hand luggage it takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes to get to the shuttle. Should you be in doubt that you will make it in time it is advisable to book a later shuttle and should you arrive earlier and provided we have space we can shift you to the earlier shuttle for free. However should you book the earlier shuttle and not make it in time, you will forfeit the ticket and need to purchase a new ticket for the later shuttle.

Is there live tracking of your shuttles?

We have lived tracking fitted in all of our vehicles and software that is monitored throughout the route/s.

How does the shuttle service work?

Southern Shuttle transports passengers from designated drop off and collection points at specific times, daily to and from the KZN South Coast to Durban. We also offer Private Transfers for passengers not wanting to share the shuttle with others, if travelling in a large group or with flights not suitable to our scheduled times.
